Myth and Lore - Mermaid

"I tell ye, lad, there's mermaids and there's mermaids. Not 'hat pleasant, helpful kind, no: bloodthirsty they are. Lure yer senses, dulls them, tricks ye til yer down under. And there, once in their grasp, they hold ye til yer lungs are emptied and yer heart stops tickin'. Ay, lad, eternity with a beautiful lass is one thing: eternity down in the big blue's another. So keep an eye out, lad. Watch yerself - them mermaids are tricky ladies."

I have this problem with dark, grim pictures. I love doing them, but I never get the feeling I want. So this is the first in - I hope - a series that'll be darker, grimmer, and hopefully add a dash of darkness to my skills. They'll be speedpaints (this one took about twenty minutes to sketch and two hours to colour), because I think that'll help me even further to stop thinking "perfect" and start thinking "feeling".

And mermaids! I kind of like the thought of two kinds of mermaids: the helpful kind that genuinely wants your best, sort of, but playful and mischiveous all the same, and then this: cunning, bloodthirsty and sinister. I don't know. It fascinates me.
